We conduct fundamental and translational research in the field of Systems Biology and Biomedicine – in the lab, in the clinic and in silico. We focus on neurodegenerative processes and are especially interested in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease and their contributing factors. The LCSB recruits talented scientists from various disciplines: computer scientists, mathematicians, biologists, chemists, engineers, physicists and clinicians from more than 50 countries currently work at the LCSB. We excel because we are truly interdisciplinary, and together we contribute to science and society.Your roleSuccessful candidate will join the Clinical and Translational Informatics, led by Dr. Venkata Satagopam, which focuses on bridging translational medicine and bioinformatics through innovative data integration, visualisation, and advanced analytics. Our research integrates bioinformatics, data science, and IT solutions to advance digital health and translational medicine using a “bench-to-bedside” approach. By harmonising and analysing diverse biomedical data, while focusing on the secure data processing and predictive modelling, we aim to drive progress in translational medicine, improving diagnostics and healthcare solutions. For more information,You will be the scientific liaison for a team developing secure and FAIR-compliant data platforms for storing, managing, and sharing clinical data from neurodegenerative disease cohorts. You will be responsible for:
- Technically contribute and coordinate the development and implementation of data systems and analysis platforms with the platform development team (developers, data managers, scientists)
- Supporting strategic planning and integration of new data modalities, metadata standards, and ontologies into the platform
- Acting as liaison between data providers, IT developers and data governance teams
- Ensuring scientific alignment and adherence to ethical, legal, and data protection regulations (e.g. GDPR)
- Tracking deliverables, reporting progress, and supporting technical documentation and consortium communication
- Representing the group in consortium meetings, and stakeholder interactions
- A PhD in computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics or related fields, with an interest in biomedical informatics and translational medicine.
- Strong conceptual understanding of clinical and biomedical research, data standards, and research infrastructures
- Prior hands-on experience in the development and implementation of data systems and/or analytics platform(s)
- Technical experience in tools like Apache Spark, Databricks, or Hadoop, ETL frameworks like Talend/ NiFi/ Knime, Programming in Python and SQL. Experience with version control systems (Git, CI/CD); Java/Scala is a plus.
- Familiarity with containerisation and orchestration like Docker and Kubernetes; Experience in Cloud platforms with services like S3, Redshift is a plus
- Prior experience in coordinating scientific or EU-funded projects, ideally in translational research or platform development is an asset
- Knowledge of data models (e.g. OMOP CDM), biobanking, or metadata harmonization is an asset
- Comfortable working across disciplines, translating between technical, clinical, and scientific teams
