Position SummaryThe Conducting Risk Officer will ensure that risk management activities were adequately performed on 3 main segments (Private Equity, Real Estate, Credit), will supervise the team of 2 Risk Officers, and will review the risk assessments for the AIFs, RAIFS, SICARS, Part II…, the risk matrices, and the risk reports for internal and external stakeholders.He/she will review and approve investment level risk assessments and their overall contribution to the risk profile of the AIFs from investment due diligence / screening through approval, acquisition and during the holding period.The Conducting Risk Officer is responsible for providing regular updates to the AIFM Board of Directors on the performance of the risk management function and will certify the risk management policies, procedures and reporting processes (and analyze their effectiveness) on an ongoing basis. He/she will develop the risk framework in light of new business activities and changes in applicable laws and regulations.This role requires an exceptional level of engagement, collaboration and influencing skills across the international Carlyle organization, and also with external stakeholders such as lawyers and regulators.Responsibilities
  • Ensuring that risk management activities were adequately performed.
  • Undertaking all statutory Conducting Officer duties and responsibilities, reporting to the Board, being the key contact with the CSSF for all risk reporting, etc. monitoring risk management procedures, etc.
  • Ensuring full compliance with regulatory risk requirements, developing and overseeing the risk function.
  • Maintaining awareness and adapting the risk framework & policies to regulatory changes, etc.
  • Manage all regulatory reporting impacting risk management (including EMIR).
  • Using your sound knowledge of working in the Luxembourg alternative funds framework to support the analysis of new product launches from the risk perspective.
  • Maintaining and developing the risk profiles of the funds with the team, providing a clear view on the risk position in relation to portfolio management decisions, ongoing assessment of portfolio positions.
  • Working with the business to resolve any breaches and carry out the risk control assessments and testing to minimise the risk of breach.
  • Maintain the business risk frameworks as they pertain to the group's various business lines (investment compliance, capital monitoring, etc.), creating new controls where necessary.
  • Work with portfolio managers to ensure they understand internal risk measures.
  • Work across departments to ensure adherence and continuous improvement where required.
  • Contribute to relevant aspects of the Conducting Officer and Board reviews.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for all risk and control challenges.
  • Being the first point of escalation for risk management matters.
  • Ensuring risk management policies and procedures were up-to-date and consistently followed.
  • Ensuring sustainability was adequately integrated in the AIFM policies and procedures.
  • Reporting to the Board on matters relevant to the risk management function.
  • Reporting to the Board on sustainability and ESG roadmap implementation plan as well as sustainability, EMIR and ESG risks.
  • Overseeing the performance of the risk management function (reviewing and approving investment level risk assessments, risk matrices, risk reports, and developing the framework in light of new business activities and changes in applicable laws and regulations).
  • Enhance and maintain a risk management framework integrating the risks the AIFM is facing (operational risk, IT risk, legal risk, etc.)
QualificationsEducation & Certificates
  • Financial Risk Manager certification preferred
  • A qualification such as FRM, CFA, Risk Management Specialist would be appreciated
  • Degree level education in math, physics, statistics, finance, etc.is an asset
Professional Experience
  • Current or prior approval as a Conducting Officer for Risk
  • A solid understanding of the Private Equity, Credit and real Estate environment.
  • Solid understanding of the compliance framework of ESG, EMIR and SFDR risk.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience working in risk,
  • A sound knowledge of the Luxembourg funds industry (AIFMD), any additional knowledge of other markets will be useful
  • Experience in the alternative fund industry (or exposure to through a service provider relationship) is required, credit knowledge is a plus
  • Excellent knowledge of the Luxembourg and EU regulatory framework, especially with regard to the risk management requirements
