Research at the department integrates basic and translational, molecular and computational approaches with a focus on cancer biology, as well as clinical research projects in human health and disease. The DLSM cooperates with the national health care centres and with leading international biomedical research institutions. The University of Luxembourg has set a strategic focus on medicine and health and is actively developing the training and research areas in these domains, creating exceptional opportunities in medical and biomedical initiatives.Your roleIn 2023, the University launched four bachelor programmes in specialized nursing sciences in the fields of surgery, anaesthesia/resuscitation, paediatrics, and mental health. A fifth programme ‘Bachelor of Nursing in General Care’ started in September 2024, while two more bachelor programmes – Midwifery and radiographer/clinical imaging - are set to commence in September 2025. These programmes are organized by combining theoretical training as well as simulations using the latest technology with practical training in hospitals, outpatient clinics and care centres, in collaboration with various institutions in the country and abroad.The Research Scientist in Nursing Science will be attached to the University on a full-time basis. S/he will have to report to the Directors of the Programs and contribute directly to the development and the excellence of the new Bachelors’ of Science in Nursing. The academic part will be divided between teaching (180 TU/year) and research:Teaching:The holder of the position will contribute to theoretical and practical teaching and conduct evaluation of the course. More precisely, the physical presence of students in medicine, biology, nursing, radiology and midwifery on Belval Campus provides us with the possibility of establishing common courses, in order to help students discovering and understanding the specificities of their discipline- specific training at a very early stage of their education.Research:The candidate will be responsible for developing his/her own research program and contribute to the Nursing Education Research Programs (NERP) in collaboration with internal partners on Belval Campus (Faculties and Interdisciplinary Centres) and with external national and international partners.Coordination:The candidate will support the coordination of one of the Bachelors of specialisation by contributing to establish the teaching staff, the course schedules, the teaching programme in close contact with the Director of Studies, the study program administrators and the project officers.For more information, Prof. Dr. Marie Friedel, inf. Ph.D. ( )Your profileThe ideal candidate hired by the University is a teacher and programme specialist who meets the following criteria:
  • Holder of a nursing degree
  • Holder of a doctorate (PhD) in nursing or public health with a recognized reputation and research expertise based on the quality of his/her research work as evidenced by publications in the field of nursing science
  • An expertise in Surgery/ Perioperative Care (operating theatre) or Psychiatric Nursing/Mental Health is a strong asset
  • A plus if the candidate is an Accredited Educator in BLS, ALS, EPALS and preferably NLS and ETC courses from the European Resuscitation Council
  • Experience in nursing education, including theoretical teaching and supervision of trainees. A minimum of 3 years clinical experience is required
  • Experience in nursing research
  • Connection to nursing education or public health departments in universities abroad Collaboration or membership with European Nursing Societies
  • Experience in simulation training is a plus
  • Linguistic capacities: fluency in English and French is required. German would be an added value
  • Soft skills: team player, integrity, reliability
