- Develop and maintain the organization's sanctions compliance program to ensure policies, procedures and controls are aligned with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Conduct regular reviews and updates of the sanctions compliance framework to address evolving regulatory changes.
- Oversee sanctions screening processes for customers, transactions, vendors, and third parties.
- Manage and resolve potential matches from screening systems, ensuring appropriate investigation and timely reporting to appropriate authorities.
- Maintain accurate records of sanctions investigations, findings, and actions taken.
- Conduct periodic sanctions risk assessments to identify potential exposure and implement risk mitigation strategies to address identified risks.
- Provide regular training and updates to employees and stakeholders on sanctions compliance obligations.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory inquiries and examinations related to sanctions compliance.
- Monitor the performance and effectiveness of compliance systems and recommend improvements as necessary.
- Partner with the first line Compliance Operations team to ensure appropriate procedures and processes are developed for the review and critical issue of alerts
- Monitor monthly metrics for key performance indicators (KPIs) and key risk indicators (KRIs) and assist in the preparation of Management Information reporting
- Act as an ambassador for Compliance at Bitstamp by Robinhood.
- Around 5 years of relevant experience in the Sanctions Compliance or Financial Crime of regulated financial institutions (ideally crypto, banking, payments or e-money) as part of the second line of defense.
- Prior experience within the crypto industry is a strong plus but not required. However, a demonstrable interest in the sector is necessary.
- Strong understanding of global sanctions regimes (e.g., OFAC, EU, UN).
- Experience with sanctions screening tools and systems.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to analyse and synthesise complex information and distil into readily comprehensible and practical advice relevant to the commercial, strategic and financial context, applying a risk-based approach to development of business solutions and decision-making. Demonstrate a creative and innovative approach by finding different ways to look at problems and design novel solutions.
- High level of understanding of all applicable CSSF regulatory frameworks impacting the business that is commensurate with the seniority of the role. Knowledge of the Compliance environment and relevant emerging trends in the EU region.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Autonomous, pro-active and hands-on with the ability to prioritize and manage own work effectively, apply a breadth of technical, business, product and customer domain knowledge, own the outcome and make an impact.
- Used to working in a diverse, international, fast-moving business and fast evolving regulatory environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent knowledge of English language (written and verbal).
- Relevant Compliance certifications or recognized professional certifications in Compliance.
